A Viking woman could divorce her husband for many reasons, including insulting her, being too jealous, not sleeping with her, or “wearing effeminate clothing, especially low- necked shirts exposing his chest”.

Coffee was so important in Turkish culture that under 15th-century law, a woman had the freedom to divorce her husband if he did not provide her with enough coffee.

A California woman won $1.3 million in the lottery and filed for divorce 11 days later. She didn’t tell her husband, and two years later her husband found out all about it and sued her. The Judge awarded her husband all of her winnings.

As part of a divorce agreement in the 1920s, a man had to build a house for his ex-wife. But the agreement didn’t say where the house had to be located, so he built it on a salt marsh and used salt water for the plumbing.

Edward VIII is one of the shortest-reigning monarchs in British history with a reign of only 11 months. He abdicated the throne because the British government did not approve him of marrying a divorced woman. Edward VIII married her and remained married until his death.
