The first woman to run for President of the United States was Victoria Woodhull in 1872, 50 years before women could vote. She had Frederick Douglass as her running mate, and spent election day in jail due to being arrested for obscenity.

Some countries use Election Ink on voters’ fingers to prevent double voting. The ink uses silver nitrate which stains the skin and is only removed by shedding of external skin cells, therefore providing a sure way of knowing who has or hasn’t voted.

California law allows employees to take two hours paid time off in the beginning or end of the work day to vote on election day.

In 1984, the New Zealand Prime Minister got drunk and decided to spontaneously call a general election, which he lost.
