A town in Italy made a law that all fireworks have to be quiet. The goal is to reduce stress on animals and children, but silent fireworks can also be more colorful. That’s because, without a powerful explosion, the color-producing chemicals can burn longer.
Two rival churches in Vrontados, Greece shoot tens of thousands of fireworks at each other every Easter in a “Rocket War”. Both churches then claim victory and agree to settle the score next year. The tradition dates back to the Ottoman era, when real cannons were used instead. (source)
Fireworks are totally illegal in Florida, but are sold to ordinary people in huge quantities via hundreds of stores across the state to anyone who signs a waiver saying they’re for agricultural use to scare birds away from crops.
