In ancient Hawaii, men and women ate meals separately and women weren’t allowed to eat certain foods. King Kamehameha II removed all the religious laws and performed a symbolic act by eating with the women in 1819. This is when the luau parties were first created.

In 1935, the U.S. 23d Bomb Squadron dropped twenty 600-pound bombs in the path of a volcano’s lava flow saving the city of Hilo, Hawaii by diverting the lava away from the city.

After years of torture in a circus in Hawaii, this poor elephant called Tyke managed to escape injuring staff on its way out, Police then shot him 100 times which eventually killed him. Tyke’s story is a powerful reminder about the horrors that animals still face in circuses today. Don’t let Tyke be forgotten.

An Orca killed a Great White Shark near California’s Farallon Islands in 2000. The smell of the dead shark’s carcass caused all nearby great whites to vanish. A great white with a satellite tag in the area was seen to immediately dive to a depth of 500 meters and then swam to Hawaii.

According to tradition in Hawaii, a woman who wears a flower behind her left ear is signalling she is married, taken or not available for a relationship. A flower worn behind the right ear signals a woman is available, single or approachable. source
