We use the terms ‘white meat’ and ‘dark meat’ because the Victorians were prudes. In the early 1800s, people found it vulgar to say the words ‘leg,’ ‘thigh,’ or ‘breast’ (especially around women), so they had to find more ‘appropriate’ phrases to use when talking about their meat.
In 2013, police busted a meat packing plant in China that was selling 20 tons of chicken meat slaughtered in 1967. It had been treated with hydrogen peroxide to make it look presentable in markets and stores.
Scientists aren’t just working on lab-grown meat, but lab-grown milk as well, which will yield vegan-friendly cheese, butter, and ice cream, and also reduce the carbon footprint of the dairy industry.
